<P>Users are given access to pages and features in a Web site by being assigned to
a <a href="wsgGloss.htm#role" class="glossterm">role</a> that contains specific user
rights. Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions 2002 includes 12 <a href="wsgGloss.htm#rights" class="glossterm">user rights</a>
that can be assigned to roles. <a href="wsgGloss.htm#administratorrole" class="glossterm">Administrators</a>
of a Web site can assign users to existing roles or create new roles with
specific sets of <a href="wsgGloss.htm#rights" class="glossterm">user rights</a>.

are available in Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions 2002. Each right gives
the user permission to perform a specific action on a Web site or <a href="wsgGloss.htm#virtualserver" class="glossterm">virtual
server</a>.</p>
<h2>Web design rights</h2>
<ul>
<li><b>Author Pages</b> Create, edit, or delete HTML pages and
directories.
<li><b>Browse</b> Browse pages in this Web site, including those with Web bots.
<li><b>Set Source Control</b> Set the source control options.</li>
<li><b>Theme Web</b> Apply a <a href="wsgGloss.htm#theme" class="glossterm">theme</a>
to a Web site.</li>
<li><b>Border Web</b> Apply a border to a Web site.</li>
<li><b>Link Style Sheets</b> Apply a <a href="wsgGloss.htm#CSS" class="glossterm">style
sheet</a> to an entire Web site.</li>

Specifying which rights are available for a server

<p>Administrators can determine which <a href="wsgGloss.htm#rights" class="glossterm">user rights</a> are available for use on a
server. As an administrator, if you don't want to allow users of a Web site to
perform certain actions, you can disable the associated rights on the server.
When you disable a right on your server, that right cannot be used for any
role or assigned to any user of the server.</p>
<p>For example, if you don't want users to be able to <a href="wsgGloss.htm#recalculateweb" class="glossterm">recalculate</a>
a Web site, you can disable <b>Recalc Web</b>.</p>
<p>Some rights are dependent on other rights. For example, the <b>Author Pages</b>
right requires the <b>Browse</b> right. When you select a right that
depends on other rights, the required rights are also selected. When you clear
a right that is required for another right, that right is also cleared.</p>

<P>You use the <b>Set List of Available Rights</b> page to
specify which <a href="wsgGloss.htm#rights" class="glossterm"> rights</a> are available for
<a href="wsgGloss.htm#role" class="glossterm"> roles</a> on a server.</P>
